Lassen and Drakesbad, August 12-14 2005 |
We will meet somewhere along 80 north of the bridge and find our way through back roads to Oroville. From there we will take the Oroville/Quincy highway, an extraordinary road with just maybe some gravel construction areas. Lunch will be in Quincy at a multi-fusion restaurant called Pangaea. From there we will motor on up to Chester and get any supplies that we may need for our adventures in Lassen National Volcanic Park. |
This ride has a little bit of everything, challenging roads, great scenery and 5 star rustic comforts! |
Lassen Peak, July 4, 2004 |
Many thanks to Kari who put part of this route together in 2004!

Lassen is an amazing Volcanic park. The number and density of hot springs, mud pots, steaming creeks and geysers rivals Yellowstone. Many of these hot spots are a short hike from Warner Valley and are far less traveled then the main route through Lassen. This also means they are much less restricted in access so you can get up close to bubbling pools and steaming cracks in the ground. Drakesbad is a quaint little resort that has kept its 1890-1910 architecture and feeling. This is very close to the real thing from ages gone buy. Click here for a photo history of Drakesbad There are numerous options for our stay at Drakesbad/Warner Valley. Drakesbad has a number of cabin accommodations and Warner Valley has 18 roomy camp sites. I highly recommend that we make dinner reservations at Drakesbad (access to the hot pool and showers is included) so when we arrive we can soak a bit in the hot springs pool (really clear, hot water) and shower before dinner. If you will be staying at Drakesbad, you will need to make reservations right away as the cabins are highly sought after. |
I will continue to add information to this page for ride rules, 2nd and 3rd day options and anything else that the club would like added to this trip news page |
