Death Valley Gone Wild

Gazing on a brilliant field of yellow that brings the mind to a vibrant calm. Brilliant blues that mock the sky. Greens and oranges that pop out from the air. These are the sights that can be found in the flowers from the sea to the desert of southern California and what my mind’s eye […]

B.C. to A.K. Boogie!

Last summer I rode to Alaska with a group of like minded riders.  We were all on dirt worthy bikes.   My choice was the DRZ 400.  Thumper you say?  Are you crazy.  4,600 miles later, I can say, ‘yes you can adventurize a thumper!  Here are some pics .  Ride report to follow when I […]

DRZ 400S mods

DRZ 400S mods

Part 0: DRZ400S mods:

I got lucky when I picked this bike up in 2005.  It already had the Yosh pipe and muffler (header oversized with Yosh muffler) and the exhaust bomb.  It already had the air box opened up and was jetted and adjusted with a dyno for the entire setup.  It also came with a jell seat, Renthal bars, Aecurbus bark busters and various electrical ‘enhancements’  All engine casing covers were armoured and a heavy duty skid plate was installed.  That was my starting point.

Death Valley Boogie

When I tell someone that I’m going to Death Valley the immediate response is ‘Why would you go there!’.  After all, any place with a name like DV, well, if you haven’t been there, it brings to mind some poor soul dying of thirst under a blazing sun Cool. To those that have been there, it brings memories of mountains, valleys, flowers, grasses, trees and grand geological features.  To a motorcyclist, it brings to mind thousands of dirt and paved road miles.  A destination that is a ride.  So, I boogied on down to DV for a couple of days.  Check out my pics and story !

Baja 2007

I heard an ad on the radio today.  It started with getting cozy and warm by a fire.  A bon fire, on  a beach in Mexico. It was a nice reminder of a trip I just returned from.  Six nights of camping on beaches in Baja Mexico. Pics are here

Craig Hightower, July 20, 1961 – August 14, 2007

My good friend Craig Hightower who shared his love for motorcycles, whitewater kayaking, sea kayaking and adventures in general with so many, was killed when an SUV struck his bike while he was commuting to work.

The world has one less White Knight.

Nasty Drop after house rocks

Middle Middle 04/27/07

1870 cfs is pushy for this narrow river.   The Middle Middle Snow is a class III with one class IV drop.  My reading is that at 1800cfs some of the class III are into the class III+ range.  There are monster holes!

Our group consisted of Doug (our guide and amazing kayaker), the usual mugs, Katheryn, Shannon and Paula as well as Debra, Arnest and Dave.
